GREYTON ROSE FAIR 2009
30 OCTOBER – 1 NOVEMBER
The theme of Rose Fair 2009 is “Falling in Love with Greyton – a Village of Romance”, and takes place from Friday afternoon 30 October until 1 November. The program offers regular events such as the popular craft and food stalls at the Market Square, visits to open gardens, and an art and crafts hop.
One of the highlights every year is the rose exhibition, this year staged in the DRC hall. The theme of the exhibition is “Greyton through the Ages”, and various businesses and societies have been approached to display flower arrangements.
The festival kicks off with the annual “Get in the Mood’ party at the Oak & Vigne Café on Friday night, with the happy sounds of the popular Stanislav Anguelov Mediterranean Duo, putting locals and visitors in the right mood for the festivities of the weekend.
On Saturday afternoon Oewerzicht guest farm will be the place to be, with a tasting of a number of Overberg wines, South African tapas food stalls and live music by popular young artist Basson.
One of the highlights of the festival, on Saturday night, is a performance by FESTA, a vibrant all female band from Caledon, who performs a variety of musical styles so as to appeal to both connoisseur and novice alike – light classical, contemporary and folk music. This concert is presented by Greyton Red Cross and tickets are R80 per person.
Another highlight, also on Saturday night, is the Oewerzicht Wedding Party – guests are invited to attend a wedding (anyone’s wedding, their own wedding, perhaps), enjoying a 3-course meal by the 254 caterers, dancing, have their “wedding” pictures taken, catching the bouquet and the garter, slicing the wedding cake, the full wedding Monty! Guests are encouraged to dress as a bride/groom, bridesmaid, flower girl, mother or father of the bride, or just as a cheerful wedding guest. This dinner-dance function is R165 per head.
Sunday after the interdenominational thanksgiving church service the highly acclaimed and hugely popular Gugulethu Tenors will be performing in the Moravian Church. This concert is sponsored by the Greyton Tourism Association and will give music lovers a taste of what is to come for the 2010 Greyton Winter Classical Music festival. Tickets for this concert is R100.
More information about the festival is available on the Greyton Tourism website www.greyton,net. For accommodation or bookings for concerts, contact Ros or Heidi at the Greyton Tourism Office, tel 028 254 9414.
